Experts: Energy prices will rise not only for electricity, people have to choose cost-effective solutions

For electricity and gas, experts expect prices for non-fixed products to rise by about ten percent in the autumn at the latest due to high wholesale prices, which may mean that people will pay up to thousands of crowns.

“The market situation is serious. Electricity on the stock exchange has risen in price since January this year from 1,400 crowns per megawatt-hour to the current 2,100 crowns, gas from 440 crowns to almost 780 crowns per megawatt-hour, ”said Michal Les, an energy specialist at Save -.cz.

“Suppliers have only partially reflected the increase in stock prices. The main wave of rising prices is still waiting for us, from September until the end of this year, “added Les.

ENA analyst Jiří Gavor said that it is a bit late to fix prices for a longer house, but in the case of electricity it still makes sense.

“I would rather not fix gas now, I expect a correction of the current extremely high stock exchange prices there. Customers of central heat cannot influence the price of the medium and will unfortunately also have to prepare for rising prices, “he said.

According to Cyrrus analyst Petr Pelc, electricity is the best choice, despite the rise in prices due to the current demands of the construction parameters of new houses, which include popular modern wooden buildings or passive houses.

According to him, the costs of coal heating are currently low, which is so popular especially with owners of older houses with high heat loss.

“Due to its high environmental footprint, however, coal is by no means a good choice in the long run. Some coal-fired boilers have been banned since 2022 and a number of other restrictions can be expected in the future, ”said Pelc.

“In the future, coal heating can be expected to continue to grow, which will increase the final price of the heating itself,” added Pelc.

Radim Dohnal from the Capitalinked.com portal stated that coal prices have risen by about five percent since the autumn.

“However, another increase will soon come. The world and especially the Chinese price of coal is at historic highs and a correction is still in sight. The prediction for coal prices is that coal will continue to rise in price this year and next, “he said.

Sven Havlíček from the wholesale company SH Stream, which deals with trading in solid fuels, confirmed to ČTK that the rise in prices caused by high demand, especially in China and India, will gradually be reflected in coal prices in Europe.

“However, the Czechia has the most coal from its own lignite production, so it is assumed that nothing dramatic will happen this year in terms of rising brown coal prices,” he said.

“Another thing is that there will be a gradual increase in energy prices due to the impact of rising emission allowances, which will be reflected in the final price for consumers, ie customers connected to central heating sources. Of household fuels, coke has risen the most this year, attacking historical highs, ”added Havlíček.

Josef Hodboď from the TZB-info portal sees the future, especially for ecologically minded people, in the use of wood.

“The current calamity is often presented in such a way that when it is over, the wood will become significantly more expensive. I don’t think so, because wood other than spruce is usually used for fuel. Wood pellets are made from wood processing waste, so as long as some wood is cut and planed in our country, it will be what pellets can be made of, ”he said.

Approximate annual costs of selected fuels for heating, hot water and electricity for other electrical appliances (modeled for a family house with a four-member household, with a floor area of 150 square meters and a calculated heat loss of five to ten kilowatts):

Wood (gasification boiler) 43,573 CZK
Wooden briquettes (classic wood boiler with AKU tank) 49,532 CZK
Wood pellets (special boiler) 53,603 CZK
Wood chips (wood chip boiler) CZK 50,036
Vegetable pellets (special boiler) 49,631 CZK
Natural gas (condensing boiler) 52,302 CZK
Electricity storage (hot water storage tanks) 65,711 CZK
Electricity direct heating (floor electric surfaces) 52,261 CZK
Heat pump (ground / water) 45,546 CZK
