The Hospital Quirónsalud Málaga and the Regional Center for Blood Transfusion organize a special summer blood donation campaign on Wednesday, July 27. A Mobile Unit will be located on Calle Lexicografa María Moliner, next to the Hospital and next to the PD Martín Carpena Metro stop, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
“The objective of this initiative is increase blood reserves in the summer monthsa period in which the number of donations decreases”, warns Dr. Agustin Hernandez SanchezHead of the Service Hematology and Hemotherapy Hospital Quirónsalud Malaga. With the arrival of summer, “The number of blood donations drops considerably due to greater mobility and the change in routines of habitual donors or the high temperatures that, in parallel, coincide with a greater need for cases such as the increase in traffic accidents”.
The hematologist encourages the population to go on vacation having donated blood; saving life in a very simple way. To be a donor you just have to be of legal age, weigh more than 50 kilos and be in good health. The donation process does not last more than 20 minutes and each volunteer will subsequently receive an analytical summary, as well as information about their blood group and rh factor.
The decision to donate blood is an act of generosity and altruism that can save lives and contribute to improving the hope and quality of life of patients suffering from life-threatening diseases. Donated blood -explains doctor Agustín Hernández- “used in people who require transfusions in various medical situationssuch as severe bleeding, thalassemia, patients undergoing surgery or cancer patients who are going to receive chemotherapy.
Blood donation is still today “an essential and irreplaceable treatment”. In addition, blood “can only be stored for a limited time”, so a continuous supply is necessary. Thus, “it is necessary that blood reserves are always covered, in which we can contribute by promoting donation, as in this case“, keep going.
