Kochi: Summer rains lashed various parts of the state. Yesterday, the Meteorological Center informed that there is a possibility of isolated rain in various districts during the extreme heat. Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Malappuram districts received rain.
There was rain with thunder and lightning in various places including Kalamaseri and Kalur in Kochi. This evening was the first rain in Kochi after the Brahmapuram fire. At the same time, experts informed that acid was present in the summer rain that fell in Kochi. It is said that there is a slight presence of sulfuric acid in the first raindrops. The Pollution Control Board had earlier warned of the possibility of acid rain.
Air quality index in Kochi is worst. Due to the fire, a large amount of toxic smoke has spread in the atmosphere and it has caused air pollution. It was suggested that people in Kochi should not get wet in the first rain as it could lead to health problems.
The Central Meteorological Department has informed that there is a possibility of rain with thunder and wind speed of up to 40 km per hour in some places in the districts of Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad.
