Experts Call Life on Earth Begins with Lightning Strikes, How Can?

KOMPAS.com – Mystery of how life is on Earth starting to date has not been fully uncovered.

One of the theories put forward by experts, the beginning of life on the planet began from mineral found in meteorit which fell to Earth 4 billion years ago.

The mineral content according to experts is used as the main ingredient for the development of life on our planet.

But now scientists believe that this vital mineral that supports life is not only carried by meteorites.

Quoting Phys.org, Wednesday (17/3/2021) researchers from the University of Leeds said that the minerals were originally brought to Earth through billions of strikes lightning.

These findings also show that lightning strikes are just as important as meteorites in carrying out their functions; make life possible.

The research, led by Benjamin Hess, also suggests that life can develop on Earth-like planets through the same mechanism as long as it has the right atmospheric conditions.

In their study, researchers studied large samples of pure fulgurite (a rock formed when lightning strikes the ground).

The samples were formed when lightning struck a property in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, United States in 2016.

The sample was later donated to Wheaton University’s geology department.
