Experts back Moderna’s vaccines for children – Chicago Tribune

NEW YORK — An expert panel on Thursday endorsed a second COVID-19 vaccine option for children ages 6 to 17.

Advisors to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) voted unanimously to recommend Moderna’s vaccines as an option for school-age children and adolescents.

The panel’s recommendations are usually adopted by the CDC, and they become government guidance for doctors and their patients in the country.

Last week, the Food and Drug Administration authorized the vaccines in the following doses: full strength for children ages 12 to 17, and medium strength for those ages 6 to 11. The doses must be given one month apart.
