INDOZONE.ID – Professor of clinical microbiology at the University of Cambridge, Ravi Gupta is concerned corona virus will mutate into a ‘super mutant’ variant. What is a super mutant variant?
Reported from Metro.co.uk, Friday (28/5/2021), the ‘super mutant’ variant is a more infectious variant and can do some weird things. This variant is feared to appear when Covid-19 vaccination to increase.
Gupta said Covid-19 is unpredictable and the variant in India could be a start.
“Now we need to put pressure on vaccine designers, manufacturers to adapt vaccines. Second, the virus is going to do some weird things. I mean, this is just the beginning,” he said.
He is worried that a super mutant virus that appears later can adapt to vaccine.
“But that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but the virus will do very unexpected things because the amount of pressure on him will be severe, so he will adapt.”

He continued, it was difficult to say what would happen. But the virus will find a way to become more contagious.
However, Gupta is also optimistic that this will not happen if it is balanced with increasingly advanced technology. He believes it exists, but experts will be able to figure out how to deal with it.
