YOGYAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – Lung Specialist Doctor at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) Academic Hospital (RSA), Dr. Astari Pranindya Sari, gave a number of appeals to the public in dealing with the mysterious pneumonia outbreak that is currently attacking children in China.
Doctor Astari emphasized the importance of using masks correctly and maintaining distance from individuals who show symptoms of illness.
He also advised the public to be aware of airborne transmission, which can occur from droplets when coughing or sneezing. Contact with contaminated objects should also be avoided.

“It’s more about contact precautions because this disease is transmitted through the air from droplets when coughing or sneezing or in contact with contaminated objects,” he explained as stated in UGM’s official statement, Friday (1/12/2023).
Implementing Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) is key, including the habit of washing hands with soap.
Doctor Astari reminded the public not to panic, but to continue to increase awareness of the potential for disease transmission.

Until now, there is no definite conclusion regarding the cause of this pneumonia. Suspected causes include influenza virus, Rhino Syncytial Virus (RSV), Mycoplasma pneumoniae, and other factors that have not been identified.
