Kaspars Zaltāns, historian and museum guide, reveals an interesting method of how the skull was historically dismantled in the TV24 program “Dr. Apinis”.
Last year, the new and modern Anatomy Museum of Riga Stradins University (RSU) opened its doors.
An expert at the Anatomy Museum tells us that the skull consists of 22 bones, which is also written in every anatomy book.
“The skull has fine seams, which can be damaged if broken open mechanically. Historically, to disassemble the skull, it was placed in a metal casing, filled with peas, poured with water, when the peas swelled, the seams opened,” says Kaspars Zaltāns, historian and museum guide.
RSU Museum of Anatomy is located in its historical place – in the complex of anatomy buildings in Riga, Kronvalda boulevard 9, where it has existed for almost 100 years.
