According to expert Fatemeh Shams, assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania, after the violent repression of protesters in Iran, part of the religious class is also angry with the country’s political leadership. “There is a significant segment of society that practices Islam. But most of the country’s traditional religious population is also shocked by the brutal violence in the name of Islam,” Shams said.
