Jakarta – The doctor and public nutrition expert, Tan Shot Yen, suggested that the polio vaccine must be repeated to maintain the body’s antibodies. As time passes a person’s antibodies will decrease.

“To be able to maintain our armed forces, we must have upgraded protective equipment,” Tan, who simulated a vaccine with protective equipment, said in an online chat broadcast broadcast on an official channel YouTube Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), Friday (25/10).

He continued that with repeated polio vaccinations, the immunity created can be durable and long-lasting. This is similar to the Covid-19 vaccine which needs to be repeated with a booster shot.

At the same time, the Chairman of the National Commission on Post-vaccination Events (Komnas KIPI), Hinky Hindra Irawan Satari, said that children who receive complete polio vaccine can still get polio. The reason is that the protective power of the vaccine does not reach 100%, but only about 90-95%.

However, if exposed to polio, fully vaccinated children will experience only mild symptoms. The healing process is faster without the need for hospital treatment.

“So, continue to implement the polio vaccine, don’t forget to clean our water, clean our trash, educate us about living clean and healthy, wash our hands with soap,” said Hinky.

In addition, he said the government recently, through the Ministry of Health, held the National Polio Immunization Week (PIN). This activity was held as the government was still tracking polio cases, especially in areas with low vaccination coverage.

Hinky said that all children must receive the PIN Polio vaccine even if their polio vaccine is up to date. This works to increase the body’s immunity.

“We must always have immunity, and everyone, not just those who are incomplete (vaccination),” Hinky said.
