Political scientist Sergey Markov told what indirect consequences a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Olympics by the United States and allies could have.
“This boycott will push Russia and China a little closer to each other. Although, it would seem, much more, – says Markov. “The states are waging a hybrid war against both Russia and China, and the very logic pushes these two states to be allies.”
Support of the Russian Federation to China in the issue of strategic security is also important, the expert said in an interview 360 TV channel. And China itself is closely monitoring that the Alliance does not make a “jump” into the Pacific Ocean, since NATO is discussing the idea of a global military alliance with the inclusion of China’s opponents: Japan, South Korea, Australia.
“Before the start of the Olympic Games, there were fears that the States might launch a military operation in the Donbas right during the sports festival, this is quite in line with the American style. According to the same scheme, Saakashvili launched an operation in South Ossetia in 2008 at the go-ahead of the United States during the Olympic Games in Beijing, and a coup d’état broke out in Ukraine during the Sochi Games in 2014 according to the same patterns. But now such a scenario is unlikely, since Russia has assembled a serious military group on the borders with Ukraine,” Sergey Markov summed up.
Formerly Dima Bilan supported Russian Olympians with a new video for the song “For the sake of victories” with a modified text.
