Expert notes historic coincidence as Arab countries synchronously kick off Ramadan after 6 years

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Director of the International Astronomy Center in the Emirates, Muhammad Shawkat, shed light on the determination of the Arab countries for the beginning of Ramadan 2023 on the same day for the first time in 6 years.

This came in Shawkat’s tweet on his Twitter page, in which he said: “As an observer of seeing the crescent and the beginnings of the Hijri months, for the first time in 6 years and the second in more than a quarter of a century, the Arab countries begin their fast in one day.”

On the level of Islamic countries, Shawkat continued, saying: “All Islamic countries start fasting on one day, except for Bangladesh, for logical reasons.”

And the International Astronomy Center had explained in a previous tweet that “the conditions of the crescent helped the unity of the nation, as the vision was impossible on Tuesday evening, and therefore no testimony of seeing the crescent was documented on that day. And the vision on Wednesday evening was possible in most parts of the Islamic world, so the crescent was seen in most of it.”
