Meulaboh (ANTARA) – Dr Edi Hidayat, an internal medicine specialist in Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh Province, advised the public to increase their consumption of vitamin D amid the incessant spread of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
“Vitamin D has many benefits, one of which can strengthen the body’s immunity during a pandemic like today,” said Edi Hidayat in Nagan Raya, Thursday (3/3).
He also explained, vitamin D can also help optimize immunity by supporting the work of white blood cells in fighting pathogens.
Its properties as anti-inflammatory and antioxidant and these vitamins are able to improve the work of the immune system, nerves, and muscles.
In addition, said Dr. Edi Hidayat, people are also advised to consume fresh fruits that contain lots of vitamin C, because this vitamin is also very beneficial for health.
He also advised the public to regularly exercise, maintain a healthy diet, maintain good sleep patterns, and be able to comply with health protocols when doing activities outside the home.
Edi Hidayat also explained that the Omicron variant is not as dangerous as the Delta and Alpha variant viruses, but the transmission of Omicron is faster than other types of viruses originating from other COVID-19 variants.
“Although it is not as dangerous as other variants, the Omicron variant should not be underestimated because its transmission is very fast, and it can heal by itself no later than seven days after someone is infected,” he added.
He also appealed to the public to continue to maintain health and continue to wear masks when doing activities outside the home.
“The most important thing is that residents have to inject the COVID-19 vaccine. God willing, if the COVID-19 virus is attacked, the impact will likely not be as severe as for people who have not been vaccinated,” said Edi Hidayat.
