There is little more annoying than waking up at night and not being able to sleep again. No matter what you try, you are wide awake and there seems to be little that can put you back to sleep. A sleep expert may have a solution for that.

Expert Biquan Luo comes up with a two-step plan. Initially, you should just stay in bed when you wake up. Try to relax yourself with breathing exercises or white noise machines, for example. Don’t look at the clock or your phone.

If you are still awake after fifteen minutes, then follow step two: get out of bed and find a relaxing place in the house. There you will do something that calms you down, for example reading a book or drinking a cup of tea.

And it still applies: stay away from your phone. “Looking at the time can increase stress and make it harder for you to fall back asleep,” Luo said on Fox News. “Additionally, when you check the time on your phone, the content on the phone can be too stimulating, which further prevents you from relaxing and falling asleep.”
