In an interview in The First Broadcast of MVS News, Marco Fernandezprofessor and associate researcher at México Evalúa, expressed his concern about the critical situation facing the teaching in mexicoespecially due to the recent budget cuts carried out by the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP). Fernandez stressed that one of the most alarming aspects is the decision to eliminate the English bookswhich directly affects the quality of education and limits learning opportunities for millions of students. “These cuts are a significant setback in the formation of basic skills that are essential for the development of students,” he said.
Fernández stressed that the lack of English textbooks is not the only problem facing the education system. He mentioned that the cuts also affect other fundamental programs and resources necessary for a quality education. According to the researcher, the reduction in the education budget could have long-term consequences on the preparation of young people to compete in an increasingly globalized world. “Education must be a priority and cannot be sacrificed by budgetary decisions that compromise the future of students,” concluded Fernández, calling on the authorities to reconsider these cuts and guarantee access to a comprehensive education.
