Slovak hockey forward Adam Ružička from the Calgary Flames team in the overseas NHL did not get enough space from coach Darryl Sutter in the current season to show his full potential.
According to expert Shane Stevenson from the Flames Nation portal, the 23-year-old from Bratislava could have been a more valuable player throughout the year if Sutter had included him more often in the lineup and in higher formations.
The “flames” management recently dismissed Sutter from his position, which, according to Stevenson, will help Ružiček and the new coach should give him more opportunities. “He is definitely one of the players who will benefit from Sutter’s departure. He actively helped the team to victories until he started sitting in the stands in the second half of the season. In my opinion, he showed that he can score regularly in the NHL. Under Sutter’s leadership, he definitely matured on the defensive side as well. Since the team The Flames are getting younger and need players with the smallest possible contracts, Ružička with a salary of 800 thousand dollars should get a lot of playing time.” the expert thinks.
Ružička played 44 out of 82 games in the regular season and scored 20 points (6+14). “Some have questioned his work ethic, but that’s bullshit. Sometimes you seem slow at the center position because you have to start from a standstill and pick up speed. Ružička has long strides and may seem slow, but he’s not.
His greatest weapon was his sense of chances in the offensive zone. He is not afraid to shoot from a dangerous position without the need to pass, thus creating more opportunities for the finish. He showed it every time he got on the ice with the second power formation.” Stevenson evaluated the Slovak’s contribution to the team.
“Ružička has the potential to be an even better player with his creative thinking on offense and good puck work given his robust frame. He had a very successful start to the season, getting the chance to create plays on offense and be useful for the team. As his ice time decreased for reasons I can only speculate about, he became largely unnecessary. It wasn’t his fault that he wasn’t able to help the team when he needed it. Instead of playing, he was sitting in the stands.” Stevenson explained the situation of Adam Ružička in the Calgary Flames team, which did not advance to the playoffs.
