When it comes to drinks, only water can be considered more sought after than coffee. The pleasure of sipping a cup is something that almost every person in the world indulges in, whatever the country. And it is not only thanks to its properties, both digestive and energizing. To give to the coffee such an important role in our habits it is above all its taste. There is no need to be a true connoisseur to understand when a blend is of high quality. Often it is precisely the frequency with which we drink it that allows us to understand if we are really dealing with a good quality product.

Many of us develop a real coffee culture, sometimes forgetting to be careful to moderate its consumption. Because it is true that its intake can be positive (even for the reduced caloric load) but it is also true that too much is good in any case, it is a food or, as in this case, a drink. Most of us, however, know very well how to behave. So much so that, going on in the years, there are those who begin to appreciate what actually represents a valid alternative to the classic version, that is decaffeinated. It is no coincidence that it is particularly popular with pregnant women and all over 60s.

Classic or decaffeinated coffee: advantages and disadvantages

Not everyone knows that a single cup of coffee contains an impressive amount of nutrients: from water to caffeine, from soluble fiber to potassium and magnesium. But also flavonoids and proteins. All in a simple sip, since real coffee is consumed in small quantities. Calorie intake is considerably reduced the amount of water, which is 98% of the total. This also favors digestibility, as long as you leave the cup “natural”, without correction with milk and liqueurs or with sugar.

Taken in the right quantities, it becomes a drink that, according to scientific studies, provides a positive help to our body, with its energizing action, favorable to metabolism and with the function of regulating blood pressure. Furthermore, coffee slows down the absorption of carbohydrates and counteracts the onset of cardiovascular diseases and even others such as Alzheimer’s disease by up to 30%. All characteristics that indicate it as particularly suitable for over 60s.

So what are the advantages of decaf? It is true, caffeine (always in moderate quantities) can favor some beneficial activities of our body. But, at the same time, an overdose can expose you to just as many risks: first of all that of tachycardia, but also the rise in blood pressure, insomnia and the production of gastric acids and erosive action. Notwithstanding that a totally decaffeinated coffee does not exist (an infinitesimal quantity is always present, even to the extent of 0.01%), it is good to balance the intake. According to experts, three or four cups of classic coffee (possibly without sugar) would be the ideal quantity. Decaffeinated can help those who have developed certain pathologies (heart or gastric reflux) or those who are hypersensitive to caffeine. In these cases, the “dec” version could have its say.
