Expert advice after police reveal Kalideres family’s ‘mantra and incense’ ritual

Jakarta

Polda Metro Jaya still investigating the puzzle death of a family in Kalideres, West Jakarta after the revelation of the “mantra and incense” ritual. UGM and University of Melbourne forensic psychology expert Reza Indragiri Amriel advised the police on the case.

Reza said police must first ascertain whether or not the cause of the four people’s deaths was due to a criminal act. According to him, this is the most important point in handling this case.

“The most important point in this case is that the Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya (PMJ) ascertains whether the four people referred to died as a result of a criminal act or not. If the second possibility is finding, then the Public by PMJ The relationship team should not hesitate to announce this to the public and repatriate the bodies to their families,” Reza told reporters on Tuesday (11/29/2022).

Reza said police have yet to tell the public if the cause of death in this family is not known for sure. According to him, the undisclosed cause of death in this case does not mean that the police work has failed.

“Likewise, if the cause of death cannot be conclusively determined, the Ditreskrimum and PMJ Public Relations must still disclose it to the public. The cause of death that cannot be conclusively determined is not a police failure ”, he stated.

Furthermore, he revealed that one of the speculations that could be verified was that this family either intentionally or planned to achieve their own death. The indications, he said, were the condition of the house which was tidy (garbage was not strewn everywhere), the request to the PLN to cut off the power supply and the location of the bodies in an orderly manner (not strewn randomly).

“The family’s plans to cremate the body also add to the basis for suicide speculation. In a cremation society, death is a transition from one life form to another,” he said.

“Thus, if a person in his current form of life feels that he is no longer able to practice dharma (because of old age or an incurable disease), he has a moral justification for taking suicide as a path to a new form of life. With this new format, he hopes to be more powerful in doing dharma,” he added.
