Experiment: companies introduce a 4-day work week; the results are surprising

Productivity does not change, but employee satisfaction and motivation to work is incomparably higher. Such results were revealed by a large-scale experiment with a four-day work week, in which 61 companies in Great Britain participated over six months, writes Euronews.

At the end of the experiment, 56 companies decided to keep the four-day working day practice.

Companies and organizations participating in the six-month experiment ranged from small local businesses to large corporations that could have as many as 2,900 employees.

The working week for workers was reduced from five days to four days, while maintaining the previous salary.

The experiment was carried out by 4 Day Week Global in collaboration with think tank Autonomy, the 4 Day Week campaign and researchers from the University of Cambridge and Boston College.

The results surprised everyone: it turned out that the productivity of the company’s employees did not change, while the revenue of the organizations increased by an average of 1.4%.

The researchers note that the four-day week also significantly helped reduce stress levels and emotional burnout among employees: 71% of experiment participants reported an improvement in their emotional state. At the same time, their mental and physical health improved.
