– There will be the finest jazz again in the castle vault in Höchstadt on November 18th. The musicians were nominated as Band of the Year at the German Jazz Prize in 2022. Tickets are available in advance.
“Future-oriented, fresh and presented with pure honesty,” wrote the US jazz magazine New York City Jazzrecord about the new album “Reveal” (German: to reveal something, to reveal) by Mareike Wiening and her quintet, which won the German Jazz Prize in 2022 as the band of was nominated this year.
Roots in Herzogenaurach
On November 18th she will be a guest at the Höchstadt Castle Vault in the series “jazz!3”. For the studied jazz drummer, born in 1987, it is almost a “home game”: she comes from Herzogenaurach.
The music is inspired not only by the influences of the Big Apple, but also by Wiening’s previous place in life, Scandinavia. A subtle, melodic work of art full of nuanced and varied sound poems, sometimes chamber music-like, sometimes playfully dancing in a waltz, then again gripping with grooving improvisations.
The musical dialogue between soloist and accompaniment is another characteristic of the band: the give and take, the emotional reaction or the creative and unexpected surprises that arise through spontaneity and in the moment.
Tickets in advance
With the American tenor saxophonist Rich Perry, born in 1955, the band has a father figure, but above all a great jazz stylist in their line-up. Tickets are available in advance for 22 euros (10 euros for schoolchildren and students) from the Schlossverein on (09193) 4507 or in the Bücherstube Höchstadt.
