Put on your knee pads, gloves and helmet and come and measure yourself against the ramps of the Guentrange skatepark, in Thionville. It opened its doors, or rather its ramps, about a month ago. It has several modules: inclined plane, curb (rectangular module), without forgetting the ramps, on which the more daring try figures, or “tricks”, as they prefer to call them. “Before, we had to go to Luxembourg or Metz to practice,” says Corentin, volunteer of the association for the promotion of skateboarding, Rawdogs. This new skatepark is however “poorly laid out, it is difficult to move from one module to another”, he assures.
New practitioners
The Rawdogs association, which took part in the inauguration of this skatepark, organized initiations to skateboarding on Monday 7, Tuesday 8 and Wednesday 9 August. “The goal is to pass on our knowledge to new practitioners,” says Corentin. This 31-year-old skater has more than eighteen years of experience. The teenagers, aged 14 to 17, from the neighborhood center also went to this discovery. Of the five people present, three had never skated, including Estelle, director of the local clic café. “We were initiated and we had a great time,” she smiles.
A family came to see the son practice riding, he took part in an initiation the day before. Neither one nor two, he asked his parents to buy him a board and is now facing the bitumen.
