Pushing the M 1000 XR the inline four-cylinder engine from the super sports car is used BMW S1000RR with BMW ShiftCam technology for valve timing and valve lift. The claimed output is over 147 kW (200 PS) and a curb weight of just 223 kg, which can be further reduced and even more driving dynamics can be achieved with the M Competition package, which is available as an option ex works. The maximum speed of the M 1000 XR prototype is around 280 km/h.
Among the equipment, the aerodynamic wings stand out, designed to offer greater stability and reduce the tendency to wheelie by eliminating the aerodynamic load. Thanks to this the traction control system has to adjust less, more drive power is converted into acceleration and the driver achieves a faster lap time. The seating position specifically oriented towards the front wheel ensures better control of the bike, especially in supersport mode.
Like the M 1000 RR and M 1000 R, the new M 1000 XR is equipped with M brake system, developed directly using the experience gained with the braking systems used by BMW Motorrad in the Superbike World Championship. The M brake calipers feature a blue anodized coating in combination with the well-known M logo.
