Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 is one of the most majestic musical works of the Romantic era and is also known as the Resurrection Symphony. In total, this symphony has five movements, in which themes of the last days, salvation and resurrection reveal Mahler’s vision of the beauty of eternity. Gustav Mahler’s peculiar, complex personality and his oeuvre form a direct arc from the traditions of late romanticism to the music of the 20th century. It reflects the brilliant sunset of Western European romantic maximalism. Gustav Mahler said that composing a symphony for him means creating a whole world. In total, Mahler wrote ten symphonies, but the tenth remained unfinished.
Both for the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and the State Academic Choir Latvia it will be a return to Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, but for the first time it will take place under the leadership of the orchestra’s artistic director and chief conductor, Tarmo Peltokoski. Played in the concert hall Latvia soloists Perina Madef and Zanda Švede will also take part.
Tarmo Peltokoski became the LNSO’s artistic director and chief conductor in the previous concert season, but the new conductor has already gained considerable experience and critical acclaim. After his performance with the French Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, a French music publication Tuning fork wrote: “Attention genius! Yes, we know: you get told this a lot. But it is important to note that the debut of the 22-year-old Finnish conductor Tarmo Peltokoski in France was marked by exceptional excellence. The young Finnish conductor showed such energy and musical sense that leaves you speechless.”
Tickets can be purchased at concert halls Latvia, theater house Sea Gate at cash registers, as well as others Ticket paradises selling markets.
