Size matters
The first thing you immediately understand is that it is big. A really big TV, because you don’t often see an OLED screen in the 77-inch size. A question may immediately arise here – is there enough space for such a large TV in an average apartment? We hurry to calm all worried minds – that’s enough! Gone are the days when you had to sit at least three meters away from the TV, otherwise you could see every single pixel. Now the image quality is at such a level that even from a very close distance it will be difficult to see the pixels, and to get the maximum range of sensations, it is even desirable to sit quite close to the TV, but this in turn means that you do not need a large room. Samsung has even calculated, what is the ideal viewing distance for TVs of different sizes: 1.7 meters for a 55-inch screen, 2 meters for a 65-inch screen, 2.3 meters for a 75-inch screen, and 2.6 meters for an 85-inch giant. So, as we can see, the distance is not great and does not require a very large space.
When it comes to space, there is another good news – this TV can be mounted on the wall without any problems. Of course, you could also put the earlier models on the wall, but there was one unpleasant problem – the ugly tangle of wires that stretched along the wall from the TV to the receiver, game console and other auxiliary equipment. Now the cable is single and inconspicuous (it’s called the One Connect cable), and it connects the TV to the Slim One Connect Box – a small, thin box hidden somewhere in the depths of the shelf, to which all devices can then be connected. The TV itself is also very thin.
The magic of colors
Let’s lock in! And immediately the next surprise awaits us – the colors on the screen. It is no exaggeration to say that you will not find such bright and rich colors anywhere else. The blacks are so deep that you can really see every detail of the black cat on the screen. The white tones are very pure, the other colors are bright. Such quality is possible thanks to the Quantum Dot technology used in televisions, which allows the use of more advanced self-illuminating pixels. As a result, the image has 30 percent more brightness than previous models. It can be added here that the Samsung OLED TV has been verified by the international PANTONE color institute, which means that the color mapping technology will reproduce more than 2,000 color tones in the PANTONE catalog as accurately as possible. But the Neural Quantum 4K processor built into the TV analyzes every scene and automatically increases the brightness, ensuring maximum contrast and a sharp image in which even the smallest details can be seen.
The colors are excellent in the TV demo videos, but let’s try watching something from YouTube! As you might expect, the quality of the video images found there is not that high, but the TV does what it can and improves it as much as possible. Samsung’s 4K AI Upscaling technology is responsible for this process, which improves the image to 4K level with the help of artificial intelligence.
My colleague Rihards Leper also tried the TV in video game mode and was really satisfied – the picture quality was extremely high, and what is not least important, there was not the slightest distortion or slowing down.
Amazing sound
When we are happy with the picture, we go to the volume buttons of the control panel. And here is another surprise – it is simply amazing how such a thin TV can achieve such surround sound! There are built-in very thin Dolby Atmos speakers at the back, but they provide impressive sound, and Object Tracking Sound technology creates powerful sound effects. For example, if a car is moving across the screen from right to left, then the sound of the engine will also move in that direction, creating a maximum impression of reality.
Elegant console
The console deserves separate praise. I myself have a seven-year-old television, the remote control of which is covered with so many buttons that it seems that it could be used to control a spaceship or a nuclear power plant. The Samsung remote has the bare minimum of buttons, it’s small and elegant. In addition, the lack of many buttons does not harm convenience in any way. On the contrary, everything here is simple and immediately understandable. Voice control function is also available. The special bonus is that the remote has a built-in solar battery, which means that it charges itself in the light. The second option is to place the remote control near the WiFi router, because it turns out that it can draw energy from WiFi as well. Fantastic!
Wide range of options
Nowadays, hardly anyone uses the TV just to watch Panorama anymore. As soon as we turn on the TV, we come to the offer of a wide variety of standard services, starting with YouTube and ending with Netflix. If the family is divided about what to watch tonight, the screen can be divided into two parts and each can watch their own program using headphones. Of course, the picture on the split screen will not be as impressive as the full screen, but peace and harmony at home are more important than a football match in 77-inch size…
You can simply connect your phone to the TV and watch the content available on it – from videos to browsing through photos. Really comfortable. Another potentially useful thing is the ability to control smart home devices on the TV screen. Of all of them, we only had one light available, which we tested in real life, and yes, you can turn it on and off with the help of the TV!
