Experience the Great Wall of Snow: Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route in Japan

Jakarta

One of the popular attractions that can be enjoyed in Japan is the giant ice wall of Tateyama. Here you will cross a giant ice corridor in one of the sacred mountains in Indonesia Japan.

This ice corridor near Mount Tateyama will welcome tourists again starting April 15, 2023. It is also called Yuki no Otani (Great Valley of Snow) with a winding path of 500 meters. This corridor cuts through the thick layer of snow that rises 20 meters high on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route.

Reporting from CNN, Friday (14/4/2023) travelers should know, Japan has an area called the ‘Roof of Japan’ that stretches across Toyama and Nagano prefectures north of Tokyo. The 90-kilometer scenic route offers superb views of the 3,015-meter-tall Tateyama Mountain and the 2,478-meter-tall peak of Mount Akazawa-dake. This route also provides access to the highest hot springs starting at Japan to the tallest waterfall in the country.

But the attraction of this route is this snow road. When you pass through the streets, to your left and right are snow walls that are 20 meters thick, you know. To pass this route it takes only 20 minutes to drive.

How are these snow canals created? Yep, months of workers to make this Tateyama snow highway so tourists can pass it. This year, the ‘Great Wall of Japan’ is open until June 25, 2023.

The opening of the Yuki no Otani road also marks the resumption of traffic through the entire Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route in late winter.

Apart from the snow walls, another attraction in the area is the Panorama Road which gives trekkers views of Mount Tsurugi, part of the Tateyama mountain range. The line is only open until May 7th.

Travelers can also visit the Snow Kamakura (Japanese igloo) and the Snow Tunnel at Daikanbo Station, which also have an observation deck offering panoramic views of the Japanese Alps.

So, for the first time, 2023 visitors can participate in shoveling snow and take part in creating new routes. They called the event ‘Kuzusou Yukikabe’ (Let’s break the snow wall).

From time to time, the Snow Wall and other attractions may close during inclement weather. So visitors should check the official website, Alpen-route.com, before making their journey.

For those wishing to avoid the crowds, the website encourages visitors to consider going in June. But the ice this month is not as high as this rock.

“Even in late June, the walls are still more than 10 meters high. Since there are fewer visitors in June, you can enjoy a more relaxed sightseeing experience. Also, the weather in June is warm and more predictable,” the official website says. .
