The Biennale, which runs until April 30, 2025, explores the concept of “public” in the context of Abu Dhabi, showing how art cultivates connections between communities. Designed with accessibility in mind, the exhibition is strategically located in the downtown areas of Abu Dhabi y Al Ain to welcome visitors and residents alike to interact and explore with its facilities.

Visitors and residents can explore works by more than 70 artists from around the world. The Biennale brings together site-specific installations and performances that engage directly with communities and reflect the intersection of community, environment, and identity.

Highlights include:

  • Farah Al Qasimi’s Homesickeness: An auditory sculpture that immerses listeners in the sounds of the ocean, symbolizing the cultural and environmental importance of the sea in the region.
  • Seema Nusrat’s Floating Fragments: Depicting a terracotta-roofed house submerged by an imaginary flood, it explores urban life and the increasing risks of flooding due to climate change.
  • Christopher Benton’s Where Lies My Carpet Is Thy Home: A transformation of the traditional Carpet Souk into a vibrant community space, encouraging attendees to participate and connect with the community.
  • Afra Al Dhaheri’s D-constructing Collective Exhaustion: A thought-provoking piece that draws on time, presence and attention in an immersive installation composed of wooden structures, tangled ropes, light and sound.
  • Wael Al Awar’s Barzakh: The installation references a limit or liminal space and rethinks how these materials and processes could shape the architecture of the future.

Designed to be explored on foot or by car, the Biennale’s specially curated routes invite visitors to discover landmarks and hidden gems, all through an artistic lens. Although Abu Dhabi continues to grow, its warm welcome and generous spirit remain at its core. The Biennale celebrates these treasured traditions and shares them with the world.

The Biennale will present another wave of installations and artistic activities starting in January 2025, marking the start of the second phase of the exhibition.

The Public Art Biennial of Abu Dhabi offers a unique opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in the city’s culture and connect with its vibrant community, making it a must-visit attraction for tourists in the city between November and April 2025.
