The main streets and squares of the urban center of La Orotava will host next Sunday, October 22, the great Young Street Art fair, an initiative that is in its twenty-fourth edition and combines the staging of multiple artistic disciplines with the fun and the active and cultural spirit of more than 500 young people. This event, which was pioneering in the Canary Islands, is a success in each edition and has been consolidated over time.
The exhibition was presented this Tuesday morning [17 de octubre] in the town hall with the help of Mayor Francisco Linares, the Youth Councilor of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Serafín Mesa and the Youth Councilor, Darío Afonso. The presentation also included Marcos Gutiérrez, author of the poster announcing Young Art on the Street 2023, who in his work encompasses all the aspects that cover this unique day, and transmits that intergenerational experience.
Linares stressed that the Young Street Art Fair, a showcase of outdoor arts “is a significant event with great impact, a family street show and a great opportunity for many young people who are allowed to project and make their arts and values visible.” Thus, it brings together more than ten thousand people every year, who at the same time enjoy the charms of the historic center and the local gastronomy.
Councilor Serafín Mesa stated that it is a true honor for the Cabildo of Tenerife to be able to collaborate in initiatives as important and consolidated as the Young Street Art that is celebrated in the Villa de La Orotava. The insular institution is committed to continuing to collaborate with this and other interesting and enriching projects for the youth of the municipality.
Darío Afonso considers it essential to maintain this fair so that all the young people of La Orotava, and other parts of the island, can exhibit their artistic disciplines, as well as for the municipal schools to also take to the streets to show their activities. Throughout the morning of Sunday the 22nd, between 10:00 and 15:00, numerous workshops will be held, especially for the little ones in the house, and multiple activities such as theater, mime, painting, drawing, photography, dance, music, graffiti , murals, caricatures, bodypainting, illustration, chess, balloon twisting, crafts… There will also be a freemasonry themed route through the Victoria Gardens. At the same time, there will be exhibitions, a photo booth, a clown show… Various academies and municipal schools will participate, as well as the youth radio station of the Casa de la Juventud. The different stages are distributed between the town hall square, Carrera Escultor Estévez street, El Puente and Avenida de Canarias.
