From very early the streets of New York were filled with Irish motifs and flags of the European country.
This year dozens of people participated in the parade, bagpipe music and beer were not lacking among the screams of the hundreds of attendees.
Why is Saint Patrick celebrated?
Saint Patrick is a religious festival commemorating the death of the saint of the same name, patron saint of Ireland.
With the passing of the San Patricio festival it was modified.
It has been documented that the celebration occurs even before American independence, with the popular, carnivalesque and secular celebration.
The legend of Saint Patrick
The story goes that Saint Patrick used the three-leaf clover -Ireland’s national symbol- to explain the Christian dogma of the Holy Trinity during his evangelizing work, one of the reasons why the festival is linked to the color green.
In honor of this tradition, the iconic Empire State Building is illuminated in green to commemorate the Irish date.
In several cities in the United States you can see numerous establishments and pubs offering recreational activities, menus, drinks and special prices throughout the weekend on the occasion of the festivity.
