Video streaming per se isn’t the big headline here. Many car manufacturers already offer the feature. Usually via the infotainment screen when the car is stationary. Or as seen recently with the Porsche Cayenne facelift – with a second screen for the passenger, who can then watch videos while driving.
BMW is now going one step further and bringing the Bundesliga into its 7 Series. The really cool thing about it, however, is that in all models that are equipped with the so-called theater screen, the Buli will in future also run on the large 31-inch panorama screen in the rear. So put on your fan scarf and head straight to your personal VIP lounge. The only thing missing is the in-car dispensing system and the rear grill for the stadium sausage.
The Munich team announced their partnership with the German Football League DFL this January. At that time, selected content and live games were introduced for customers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Originally, the streaming content was only available on the curved display in the dashboard, i.e. the car had to be stationary if you wanted to watch the Bundesliga. Now the range has been expanded to include the XXL monitor in row two.
The carmaker also announced that the feature would be extended to other markets. These include Belgium, Brazil, France, Italy, South Korea, the Netherlands, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and the USA. Whoever in these countries feels like kicking around in Germany’s top division can now indulge in the back of their 7er.
The program was originally scheduled to run until March 2024, but depending on feedback and customer interest, BMW may envision extending the service.
Bundesliga streaming on the large screen in the 7-seater rear is made possible with the help of the BMW Bundesliga in-car app, which can be downloaded from the Fire TV app store. The 5G-capable antenna of the Bavarian luxury limo helps with live streaming.
Unlike streaming on the front display, there are no restrictions on playing Buli games in the back of the car. Here it is absolutely possible to look while driving. The Bundesliga streaming service has also been available for the BMW iX since March 2023. X5, X6 and X7 will follow in April.
