On October 27, in the Kokaru Hall of Mežaparka’s Great Stage, you will have the opportunity to experience the American experimental rock group “Swans”, who will also be warmed up by long-time “Swans” guitarist Norman Westberg. Tickets are already on sale.
The “Swans” concert in the Kokaru Hall of the Mežaparka Grand Stage will be the closing event of the 2023 season of the alternative music cycle “Ceļabiedri”, which will be organized in cooperation with the alternative culture movement “Vārnu Laiks”. “Swans are regal and beautiful animals with really sharp temperaments. The same could be said about the music of “Swans”, which challenges listeners with themes such as suffering, existence and power relations in sensitive, artistic sounds,” the representatives of “Vārnu Laika” are intrigued.
On June 23, 2023, “Swans” will release their sixteenth studio album, “The Beggar”, which the listeners are offered to get acquainted with at concerts in the UK, Europe and North America. Well, the list of tour dates has been extended with new concerts in the second half of the year, including in Latvia.
Swans frontman Michael Gira says of the new album: “After the cancellation of the previous Swans album ‘leaving meaning’ tour due to the pandemic, endless waiting, waiting, waiting and the strange disorientation that came with this sudden and endless isolation, I decided – it’s time to write songs for a new Swans album and forget about everything else. They came relatively easily, but always with the suspicion that these might be my last. When I was finally able to travel, I went to Berlin to record this material with friends. The feeling was similar to the moment in “The Wizard of Oz” when the tape changes from black and white to color. Now I feel very optimistic. My favorite color is pink. I hope you enjoy the album.”
