Petersberg – Von Andreas Schellenberg – Wireless charging cars and autonomous vehicle systems presented by experts – under the motto “Future Mobility” the CDU city association Fulda had invited to Edag in Petersberg on Wednesday. Various company projects were presented to the visitors there, such as a model of an inductive charging station or the in-house innovative Citybot.

Susanne Jobst, deputy chairwoman of the city association, welcomed the guests on site: “It’s great that the topic has met with great interest.” She thanked Edag for the offer of being able to take a look at the technology of tomorrow . Jörg Hölig, head of the Competence Center Integral Security EDAG Engineering GmbH, first led the guests to the high-voltage laboratory.
Development engineer Benjamin Koschke presented the project structure of an inductive charging station for cars. This is the same concept as with smartphones. The vehicle can stand directly over the plate built into the road without a cable and use it to recharge the battery. “The vehicle has to be centered on it for maximum performance,” he stated. A visual display on LED lights on the car could tell the driver that the charging process is in progress and when the car will have finished charging. “You don’t have to do anything, the vehicle does it by itself,” added Koschke. The visible cable is only necessary for the test setup, he assured.
A full charge with an in-cable control box takes about 17 hours, Hölig said. With the inductive charging station, on the other hand, charging is possible within ten hours. He presented various possible applications. For example, the necessary plates could be installed in parking lots or taxi stands in the future. Installation in front of traffic lights is also possible, said Hölig.
In the large showroom, Heiko Herchet reported on the company Edag, which has special customer-centric solutions in mind. “We are making sure that we rethink mobility,” he said, referring to the Smart City concept. Johannes Barckmann showed the advantages of the Citybot, an autonomous vehicle. This can be used for many different tasks. He said that a test with the Deutsche Bank Park stadium in Frankfurt was already under way, called “Campus Freecity”. There, as a test area, the autonomous robotic vehicles are to take over the transport of people or cleaning of the premises. Similar systems are also conceivable in airports, said Barckmann. “The Citybots pose no danger,” he emphasized. Using the sensors, the robots would stop directly in front of people and slow down on their own to avoid a collision.
