Expensive pastime: The 10 most expensive hobbies: Stars spend their free time with yachts, exotic animals & Co. | message

news-container">Not every super-rich and celebrity has an expensive hobby: Michelle Obama is said to be an enthusiastic vegetable gardener and Sylvester Stallone is passionate about painting in his own studio, while Johnny Depp apparently spends a little more money on his Barbie collection. But what are the really expensive hobbies of the stars? This article introduces ten of the most expensive hobbies – but does not claim to be complete.

Diving – but with your own submarine

Diving is one of the stars’ most expensive hobbies – but not just with a wetsuit and oxygen bottle, but with a whole submarine. As the information portal CHIP reports, the billionaire owns Roman Abramovich two submarines. According to CHIP, star director James Cameron is also enthusiastic about the underwater world and had a submarine made for around 58 million US dollars. He is said to have made it then, however, to be the first person to reach the deepest point of the world’s oceans.

Luxury yachts

The hobby of many other super-rich appears to be a little less adventurous, but nevertheless seaworthy: luxury yachts. In the process, not only a gem is acquired, but sometimes also collected – even races are driven with the boats. In terms of price, however, this leisure activity is skyrocketing – Business Insider rates it as the “peak of decadence” even for the richest percent. This is due in particular to the high maintenance costs and the payment of the crew. According to Weekend, the record yacht Eclipse by Roman Abramowitsch is said to be the most expensive yacht in the world and is worth around 850 million euros.

Flying and private jets

In addition to the water enthusiasts, there are apparently also many flight enthusiasts among the stars. For example, the model Gisele Bndchen, Tom Cruise and Harrison Ford are said to have a pilot’s license, according to Weekend, many stars also have their own aircraft as an alternative or in addition to their license. The private jet rental company privatefly explains the costs of its own private jet in its blog: The luxury model Gulfstream G550, for example, is said to have a purchase price of a little more than 50 million US dollars. In addition, there are of course the costs for fuel and crew, which, according to the rental company, amount to almost 600,000 euros for around 200 flight hours for another model.

Luxury and racing cars

Cars are another means of transportation that some stars use in their free time: while Ralph Lauren and Kylie Jenner, for example, collect luxury sleds, Cristiano Ronaldo and Patrick Dempsey tend to concentrate on racing cars. According to Ronaldo Weekend, for example, he drives a Bugatti Centodienci worth around ten million euros, while Dempsey has his own racing team and even competes in races like the one at Le Mans. 15 minutes on the racetrack should cost him a little more than 300 euros, according to Weekend, Jenner’s car collection is probably worth a total of an estimated 14 million US dollars.

And also the Tesla founder Elon Musk is one of the car collectors among the super-rich. According to CHIP, however, he has so far limited himself to buying a Lotus Esprit – that is an underwater vehicle, which also appears in the Bond film “The Spy Who Loved Me”. So not only modern and particularly fast vehicles are collected, but also cars with emotional value.

Horse breeding

Still other stars collect and breed real horse power. For example, the German ex-national player Thomas Mller repeatedly reports in the media about his horse love and Kaley Cuoco, who should be known to the broad audience from the sitcom “The Big Bang Theory”, has a heart for the noble four-legged friends according to Weekend. As a breeder, you have to reckon with expenses worth 35,000 euros per horse per year, the purchase price of an expensive noble stallion can reach the million mark, explains Weekend. If you only want to rent a stallion, you have to dig deep into your pocket depending on the quality.

Poker – with high stakes

Some super-rich also like to give away a million euros at the poker table. So-called high-stake poker is particularly popular with stars like Jay-Z and Floy Mayweather Weekend. In this variant of the game, the entry fee is one million euros.

Wine presses

While some are sitting at the poker table and others are sitting thousands of meters below sea level in the submarine, stars like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are interested in wine. This hobby can also quickly become very expensive: According to Weekend – when they were still a couple – in 2008 they bought the French winery Chteau Miraval for an estimated 57 million euros. However, the wine is also sold again – so this can even be a hobby with income in the long term.

Sports clubs

Obviously, many sports-loving stars have lost their hearts to certain sports clubs – and then buy them without further ado, provided the financial resources are available. According to Weekend, Elton John was the majority shareholder and board member of Watford FC for a long time, while Justin Timberlake and a group of other stars jointly bought the US basketball team Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies apparently went into the possession of the stars for an estimated 350 million US dollars.

Exotic pets: from tigers to gerbils, everything is included

Most people are satisfied with a dog or cat – but not so many stars: Mike Tyson is known for his tiger, Kristen Stewart from Twilight apparently has a wolf hybrid at home and, according to Weekend, Brad Pitt owns a huge enclosure with desert racing musu. This should have cost him the equivalent of around 100,000 euros. Depending on the type of animal, the demands on animal welfare and the running costs, there is no upper limit to the prices for exotic pets.

Collecting: Art & Co.

Collecting is one of the less exotic hobbies. However, not only cars are collected from the stars, but also other things. For example, actress Blake Lively is said to own an art collection and Jerry Seinfeld a garage full of Porsche cars, while Tom Hanks collects old typewriters.
