Patients with a rare eye disease caused by a hereditary retinal disease can be treated with gene therapy through insurance from next year. Minister Tamara van Ark of Medical Care has decided that this expensive treatment will be included in the basic package and therefore reimbursed. The Eye Hospital in Rotterdam, the Amsterdam UMC and the Radboud UMC in Nijmegen are allowed to perform the treatment, the Nijmegen hospital said on Monday.
