High gasoline and diesel prices increase interest in liquefied petroleum gas cars, known as LPG. In the first three quarters of this year, 1,647 new cars capable of running on this fuel from production were sold in the Czech Republic.

It was about 500 more than in the same period of the record year 2015, the Czech LPG Association said in a press release today. According to her estimate, another roughly 3,000 cars were converted to oil gas afterwards this year.
Last year, 688 new LPG factory cars were registered in the Czech Republic by the end of September. This year, there are almost two and a half times more, almost 1,650. “So far, most new LPG cars were registered in the first three quarters in 2015, just over 1,100,” said Ivan Indráček, Executive Chairman of the Czech LPG Association.

For the whole of 2015, customers in the Czech Republic bought almost 1,300 new LPG cars, similar to last year. “This year thus broke the previous record not only for three quarters, but for the whole of 2015 and 2020 at the end of August,” said Indráček.
Cars capable of running on LPG from the factory are already dominated by the Romanian brand Dacia, mainly with the Duster model. The Czech LPG Association reports the Renault car company, to which Dacia belongs.

Additional conversions of petrol engines to liquefied petroleum gas are also popular. From the beginning of the year to the end of September, the Ministry of Transport registers a total of 3,521 reconstructions. However, this figure also includes conversions of cars running on natural gas (LNG) and also dismantling of conversions. “There were about three thousand pure installations of LPG systems,” estimates Indráček. According to him, LPG is still in the first place among “clean” drives before plug-in hybrids and electric cars.
There are about 170,000 LPG cars in operation throughout the Czech Republic, according to the association. Their drivers can refuel with oil in almost a thousand places.
