Austria’s household energy prices were down 26.3% in November. higher than last year. The main driver of inflation was rising fuel and heating oil prices, informs the daily “Kronen Zeitung” on Monday, citing data from the Austrian Energy Agency (AEA).
The price of heating oil increased by 64.5 percent. year on year, diesel by 40.7 percent, and premium gasoline by 35.8 percent. – it results from the Energy Price Index (EPI) calculated by the Austrian Energy Agency.
Compared to October, energy prices for households in November increased by 2.7%. Over the same period, the overall inflation rate was 0.7%. month on month and 4.3 percent. on a year-to-year basis – i.e. significantly above the values assumed by the European Central Bank.
During the month, the prices of heating oil increased again by 2.8%, and that of diesel oil by 4.4%, which meant that refueling a 50-liter tank in November cost about EUR 20 more than a year ago. Premium gasoline prices increased by 3.6 percent. month to month.
Gas was up 4.1 percent in November. more expensive than in October and by 20.4 percent. more expensive than a year ago. Prices for central heating in cities remained unchanged compared to the previous month and are 3.4 percent. higher than in November 2020. Electricity prices increased by 0.4 percent during the month, electricity now costs 10.2 percent. more than a year ago.
“Against the backdrop of record-high prices of electricity and natural gas in wholesale markets, the November changes in prices for households seem very moderate,” says AEA director Herbert Lechner. “Many companies have already announced price increases for the coming months, and some have already implemented them. The effect will be visible only in 2022, ”he added.
In the case of electricity and natural gas, however, there are signs of a slight relaxation in the international markets, their prices slightly falling at the beginning of December. “The effect is barely noticeable, but you can already see the difference with the distributors. Fuel prices are currently two to three cents a liter lower than in November. The huge price increases of the last few months will of course not be annulled, ”sums up Lechner.
