KIEV Ukraine has launched a new initiative to create a fighting force that can help liberate occupied territories. Those who apply for “Strike Guard” assault brigades among the country’s National Guard will be referred to as stormtroopers.

The National Guard of Ukraine (NSU) stated that they had received more than 20,000 applications to become part of the combat force.

Ukrinform reported that NSU spokesman Ruslan Muzychuk announced during a national telethon that interest in joining the National Guard had increased by thousands.

“In general, there have been more than 20,000 applications. We have three main sources of applications,” said Muzychuk.

“We received the largest number through www.storm.mvs.gov.ua, where the online survey is working. More than 14,000 questionnaires were received through this channel, over 7,500 of which were applications to join National Guard units. ‘TsNAPy’ also works, ‘hotline’, of course, the work is done through the collection center,” he explained as quoted from NewsweekSunday (12/2/2023).

Muzychuk said the next step would be to code through the app and determine which potential fighters best fit his assault brigade. Every candidate selected during the process must go through a thorough medical examination, psychological test, and document check.

“All these selection stages are necessary, because we are forming an assault brigade. Highly motivated candidates must arrive there, they must also fulfill other conditions for the formation of the unit,” said Muzychuk.

The troops, called stormtroopers by the Ukrainian National Guard, will be given several federal benefits if they succeed in liberating Luhansk, Donetsk and Crimea from Russian invaders.
