Expeditions: Mud Runner Game Review – Off-Road Adventures and Challenges

Anyone who has ever been in such a situation knows that it is not pleasant when your car is hopelessly stuck in mud or snow. Just as the average person is unlikely to test his vehicle and his own abilities on steep inclines and muddy forest roads. On the other hand, those who are looking for exactly these situations with off-road vehicles will find this thing much more familiar and may even pretend to be a driver when they see the fleet of Expeditions vehicles. And since Snow/Mudrunners, anyone who has spent even 1-2 hours with one of the games can probably guess what knowledge the official drivers who drive these often packed monsters must have in order for the shipments and equipment to reach the to their destination.

The story of Expeditions: Mud Runner Game revolves around a company specializing in exploration, rescue and the transportation of special cargo. There are more than 80 missions waiting for us to solve, and here we don’t expect a story or an RPG-like framework, rather a puzzle to be solved with vehicles, very difficult terrain and various instruments/tools provides the framework. Don’t expect open-world maps, here we usually start from a base (or the same base) and return to the same place after the mission is over.

We often start scouting the site with smaller all-terrain vehicles and use drones, binoculars, sonar to measure water depth, metal detectors and other tools to search for terrain obstacles and sub-regions that meet the needs of the given research camp. We search for packages dropped by air, we test river crossings, we try to scramble over steep mountainsides, and when we’re done with all that, the really big trucks come.

In the marked, scouted and prepared terrain, we will very much need all kinds of tools and “tricks” that we can pull out of our pockets. For older players, there will be nothing new when we try to get through a part with 4-wheel drive, but we can also use many other gadgets, such as the jack-screw, which we can use to tip the overturned vehicle back, the winch, which “saved lives”. if we are stuck and the metal spike called the anchor, with which we can set a fixed point that can be used with the winch. We can also take extra parts, wheels and fuel with us, because they can and will be needed. One of the most important developments, however, is the regulation of the tire pressure, which allows you to play a little with better grip and, in return, increased fuel consumption.

The very first track (but actually the second one as well) is also a tutorial, Expeditions explains the basics, gear shifting, tire pressure, different surfaces (water, mud, rocky) and navigation. After that, repairs, fuel replacement, and a little practice with the tools we have (drone, binoculars, sonar, winch) follow, and then the game lets us free. If you’re somewhere, go slow, you’ll get further here is certainly valid.

It is very easy to get stuck, stuck, or slip, but it is also true that a small thing, e.g. tire pressure or another gear on the gearbox can pull us out of seemingly hopeless situations. Experience, knowledge of the game and the physics of our car matter a lot, but so does the creativity in how we apply this knowledge.

Az Expeditions 16 vehicle currently contains, quite a few of them will be familiar from Snowrunner, although they received new textures and improvements, such as the bumper, mudguard and roof rack. We get a lot of things to develop for every vehicle, whether it’s about the body, upgrading the engine/transmission/wheels and the like, and we can also customize the exterior with paint and stickers. The sandy terrain will also be new, as well as the fact that we can develop our base and employ experts who give special buffs for each deployment.

Expeditions: The Mud Runner Game got both hot and cold when it was released. Many objected that it was not a direct sequel, but a “supplement” with a closed map. A similarly painful point was the lack of co-op, which the developers are already working on. The difficulty of the game is similar to its predecessors, the tasks and missions are colorful enough to keep drivers entertained for a long time, and the variety of vehicles is not bad either. All in all, those who loved the series for the driving experience will find everything in this part, and those looking for the previous concept will unfortunately not be satisfied.
