Expected Warm Day and Possible Storms – NBC New York (47)

NEW YORK – Summer temperatures are returning with a vengeance to kick off the work week, which is expected to rise nearly 90 degrees before the possibility of thunderstorms in the three-state area later in the day.

Monday started with dry weather, but showers and thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon, mainly north and west of New York City and remain a threat until around midnight. Some storms can have gusts of wind as a cold front moves. Harmful winds are possible, but at this time the general risk of bad weather in the region is low.

Although widespread bad weather is not expected, anyone trying to reach the sea before the end of summer should know that the beaches of New York and Long Island are at high risk of rip currents. Beware of the waves.

Thursday comes another cold front for the first day of autumn with the possibility of rain. The highs remain in the 1960s for a few days, but the “warming” still requires below-average highs. The same front will also continue to push Fiona away from the east coast.

Expect highs to drop in the 1960s on Friday and Saturday and stay slightly below average throughout the first part of next week.
