This is summarized by the Institute for Analyzes and Evaluations in Tourism. Over 740,000 foreigners visited our country in January this year, which is a significant increase compared to the levels for the same period before the Covid pandemic.
The director of the Institute, Rumen Draganov, told Bulgaria ON AIR that tourists are nearly 200,000 more than in the pre-Covid 2019 year.
“The same way we are moving for February – we will end at about 630 thousand. We are doing 2 million for December, January and February with an expected 1.7 million for the whole winter season. We are moving well as parameters. Compared to last year, we have a smaller percentage, but here the important thing for us is 2019 – the strongest pre-pandemic year. About 6,000 Bulgarians go abroad for skiing and snowboarding, there are over 300,000 in Bulgaria,” he explained.
Draganov emphasized in the Bulgaria Morning studio that Europe has rediscovered Bulgaria as a very safe and peaceful destination.
The guest pointed out that it is very important to defend “safe”.
“They find the Bulgarians very pleasant, the food is good, it seems cheap to them, the drinks are cheap, they feel great. In winter we offer all types of tourism. Somewhere around 250,000 go to the winter resorts. Spa tourism is very strong, but most come for cultural tourism in an urban-historical environment. They can see many of the monuments without paying for it. Where a fee has to be paid, it is minimal,” explained Draganov.
Official tourism ministers are doing better than regular ones, according to the director of the Institute for Tourism Analysis and Evaluation.
