We can write a white Christmas on our stomach, but that does not mean that we cannot get a Christmas feeling from the weather in the run-up to and during the Christmas holidays. Inclement weather and snowflakes help with that.
Meteorologist Johnny Willemsen from Weerplaza immediately takes away all hope at the start of the conversation with NU.nl. “There is simply no chance of a white Christmas. Then you have to have a closed snow cover for two days in a row.”
Yet the meteorologist is not very negative about getting a Christmas feeling. “Then it will mainly happen in the run-up to Christmas. The weather can be inclement on Friday and Saturday, with a biting wind and temperatures just above 0.”
Snow may fall, but it will not stay down. “It gives an extra Christmas feeling during Christmas shopping,” says Willemsen.
If you want to experience the Christmas feeling in the run-up to Christmas, you have to travel far into the country towards the east. “The further into the country, the greater the chance that you will encounter temporary snow showers.”
We can almost speak of a Christmas miracle when we also see the white flakes swirling at Christmas. “That chance is very small at just a few percent.”
