As Mr. Staikos notes, “the latest developments intensify our concern about the insufficient security measures in the field of personal data protection that the Ministry of the Interior maintains, violating a basic obligation of the General Data Protection Regulation”. Read in detail:
“On Friday, April 26, there was a complaint against the competent Director of the Directorate of Elections for violation of his office in which personal data files necessary for the conduct of the elections are kept.
According to reports, he claimed that he did not know which files were stolen or copied. The Ministry of Internal Affairs, with its official statement, refers to “alleged theft”… That is, the responsible director of the Ministry of Internal Affairs appealed to the prosecuting authorities for the break-in in his official office at the ministry, in which personal data files are kept for a specific purpose, and the ministry itself in an official announcement a little while later – and while the investigation is ongoing -refers to the event as an alleged theft…
We remind you that the Ministry of Health, as the Data Controller, is responsible for observing the basic principles of the General Regulation of Personal Data Protection. One of them is to take all the necessary organizational and technical measures in order to ensure their appropriate level of protection. Unfortunately, these latest developments intensify our concern about the insufficient security measures in the area of personal data protection that the Ministry of the Interior maintains, violating a basic obligation of the General Regulation on the Protection of Personal Data”.
