Expansion of Piombo brand by OVS to include Madrid and New York locations.

OVS introduces its brand for men in Spain. The Italian company, which in recent years has expanded its road beyond its namesake chain, The opening of the first Piombo stores in New York and Madrid is finalizedas explained by the group.

The New York store is now open and is located in the Soho neighborhood. The 143-square-meter establishment distributes the women’s, men’s, and accessories collections designed by Massimo Piombo, who is also the creative director of the OVS group.

The next step will be Madrid, where Piombo will open its first store on Friday in a location not yet confirmed. In May, the firm will also establish itself in Paris. The brand began its development with retail four months ago in Cortina d’Ampezzo, in Italy.

“We have chosen three capitals that are transforming the desire for recovery that is breathed in the world into pure energy and are today catalysts for new expressions in fashion and lifestyle,” said Massimo Beraldo, CEO of OVS, in a statement.

OVS has developed a portfolio of differential brands in recent years, beyond the chains on which the company has been built, OVS, OVS Kids and Upim. Along with them, the group controls the brands Stefanel (purchased in 2021), Croff, Baby Angel, Grand&Hills and Les Copains (acquired last year).

Piombo was an OVS own release, in 2019, and was initially specialized in men’s fashion. A year later, a women’s line was also launched. This year, she has also added a children’s collection.

Croff, Baby Angel, Grand&Hills and Piombo are exclusively distributed in OVS stores, where they have different spaces. Piombo in particular is present in all the chain’s own stores in Italy, some 500 establishments.

OVS entered Spain in 2012, when it began to test the market with a network of directly managed corners at El Corte Inglés. In 2015, the company undertook the expansion with OVS Kids through franchises.

According to the latest data available, at the end of 2021 the company had 95 points of sale in the Spanish market, including 178 corners in Spain. After initially developing his child concept, The company is now committed to a concept that includes both children’s and women’s offers.

OVS was born in 1972 within the Coin group, one of the largest distribution groups in Italy, like Magazzini Oviesse. The company has grown through purchases, such as Standa in 1999 and the fashion chain Melablu in 2008. In 2015, Coin spun off OVS, OVS Kids, Upim and Blue Kids and took OVS public in Milan. In total, the company has 2,052 stores globally and, just last year, OVS opened 230 stores.

The group closed the 2022 financial year with a turnover of 1,500 million euros, 11% more than the previous year. Last year the company floated the purchase of its former owner, the Coin department store, but ultimately called off negotiations.
