By train to flight: Lufthansa and Deutsche Bahn are strengthening their joint offer and starting express rail connections to five new German cities.
They are competitors. After all, on many routes the train is an alternative to the flight. But they are also partners. And even more so in the future. Deutsche Bahn and Lufthansa are expanding their cooperation. While there were previously express rail connections to Frankfurt Airport from 17 German train stations coordinated with Lufthansa flights, there will be 22 in the future.
As DB and Lufthansa announced on Monday (March 8th), the network will be expanded to include Hamburg and Munich in July. Berlin, Bremen and Münster will be added in December. On the trains, Lufthansa passengers enjoy a reserved seat, a guaranteed connection, preferential treatment at baggage claim and miles. Business and First customers also have access to the DB lounges and get a meal.
New, fast connections
However, Deutsche Bahn and Lufthansa are particularly proud of the new Sprinter connections that will be offered from next December. From Hamburg you then travel once a day and coordinated with important connecting flights with a stop in Hanover in 3:45 hours to Frankfurt Airport. That is ten minutes faster than before. From Düsseldorf you can get to Munich twice a day in 4:20 hours – via Cologne, Frankfurt Airport and Nuremberg. That is 30 minutes faster than it is today.
