The Ministry of Health and Population, represented by the National Population Council, held a meeting with the United Nations Population Fund, in the presence of Dr. Tarek Tawfik, Deputy Minister of Health for Population Affairs, the representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Egypt, Ms. Frederica Meyer, and a number of reproductive health experts and consultants.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, explained that the meeting dealt with ways of cooperation between the National Council and the United Nations Population Fund in expanding community awareness campaigns for reproductive health programs, within the framework of increasing awareness of the national project for the development of the Egyptian family.
“Abdul Ghaffar” added – during his speech – that the population issue is one of the most problematic issues in society, as it was viewed in terms of fertility rates, but under the initiative of the President of the Republic “a decent life”, the population issue has become seen in terms of achieving life The good and well-being of family members in all aspects of life in terms of health, psychological, social and educational aspects.
Abdul Ghaffar stressed the importance of educating the community about the concept of “a decent life for the family”, and the need to pave a good life for children before and not after childbirth, which will make a difference in the family’s perception of a decent and better life for their children.
For his part, Dr. Tarek Tawfiq, Deputy Minister of Health for Population Affairs, stressed the importance of cooperation with international partner organizations, led by the United Nations Population Fund, in good planning for community promotion of reproductive health programs and projects that the Egyptian government is working on, as the meeting reviewed examples of experiences of community awareness campaigns. Which took place in the countries of “India and Yemen” in cooperation with the office of the United Nations Population Fund in those countries.
During the meeting, Tawfiq reviewed programs to improve family health, stressing the importance of raising awareness of controlling population growth rates, in a way that contributes to good channeling of resources and benefiting from the capabilities available to citizens, especially the youth.
For her part, Ms. Frederica Meyer said that the country office of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is adopting a process of developing community marketing for reproductive health programs, and improving citizens’ behaviors with regard to reproductive health, in coordination between the various parties concerned in this regard.
