The municipalities of Kirchzarten and Buchenbach have also expressed interest in Frelo locations for their communities. Kirchzarten is in the running with four possible bike rental stations and Buchenbach with three. The topic will also be on the agenda in around 45 other interested municipalities in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district and in Emmendingen in the coming weeks or months. A regionally uniform bicycle rental system should be set up.
There has been a public bike rental system in Freiburg since 2019, which is operated by the company “Nextbike by Tier”. The contract with “Nextbike by Tier” expires at the end of 2025. For the tender for the bicycle rental system planned for 2024, the Freiburg regional local transport association and the districts of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald and Emmendingen have approached the city of Freiburg and Freiburger Verkehrs AG in order to invite the district municipalities to take part in the tender.
