Exoneration of former ministers in State Cooptation case explained by lawyer

After Judge Eva Recinos determined that a group of accused, including former ministers of the administration of former President Otto Pérez Molina, benefited by deciding that they should not face justice, lawyer Oscar Montúfar explained to La Hora his point of view on the resolution.

Montúfar indicated that it is necessary to understand the logic established by the law regarding the acceptance of charges, this is due to what was done by the former president, which recognizes the criminal guilt that is being reported and as a benefit it has the reduction of sentences, it also implies other aspects.

By accepting the charges, he indicated that the case is closed, while with the rest of the accused he added that criminal responsibility is individual, and that if there is no evidence, then the dismissal is resolved. Regarding the judge’s decision, she said that it should be respected, but that as a citizen you should ask yourself what happened.

For the crime of laundering money or other assets, Recinos dismissed the former ministers:

Alejandro Sinibaldi,
Manuel Lopez Ambrosio
Mauricio López Bonilla
Noé Ulises Anzueto Girón
As well as the former president of the IGSS, Juan de Dios Rodríguez.

For the crime of passive bribery, the following were acquitted: the former Minister of Culture, Dwight Pezzarossi; former Minister of Culture, Carlos Batzín; the former director of Renap, Rudy Gallardo and the former director of the Cadastral Information Registry, Emilia Ayuso.
