Intensive work is underway at the Ogre Museum of History and Art, preparing for the opening of two exhibitions in the museum premises and the creation of an installation near the museum. The opening of both exhibitions and the installation will take place on November 10, and they will be on display until December 3.
Exhibitions related to Lāčplēsi
Both exhibitions are related to Lāčplēsi, whose image is closely related to the Ogre region and symbolizes the freedom fighters of the Latvian people. The country’s highest military award, awarded to heroes of the First World War and the Latvian War of Independence, is named after Lāčpleš. In the exhibition “The Order of the Lačplėša”. Stories of the heroes of the Ogre region.” historical objects from the collections of G. Rusiņa, J. Vigupa and others related to the Lāčplėš War Order and Ogre residents – participants of the First World War and the Latvian War of Independence – will be on display. On the opening day, visitors will have a special opportunity to see a real 1st class Lāčplēš War Order – it is awarded to only 11 people.
The second exhibition is dedicated to the rock opera “Lāčplēsis”, which was revived on the initiative of the municipality of Ogre region, which was performed on July 28 in Lielvārde park and on October 14 in “Arena Rīga”, and it will exhibit costumes and costume sketches created by the artist Anna Mūnas (Dana Dombrovska).
Is Latvian land open?
The epic of Lačplėš, the characters depicted in it, the history of our nation with its hard freedom struggles are a good reminder: protect your land, be vigilant! Freedom comes at a high price.
How we protect our land, how vigilant we are, will be reflected in the installation “Latvian land stands open!”. The very name suggests that there is something wrong with the protection and vigilance of one’s country. The installation is being created to highlight the incompetence and indolence of our national government in failing to build a fence on our country’s eastern border and protect us from a potential invader. Four countries – Finland, Estonia, Lithuania and Poland – have built a fence on the border with the aggressor Russia, unfortunately Latvia has not fulfilled this task, not even the minimum has been done to make us feel safe in our country.
The installation map will clearly show that a fence has not been built on the border between Latvia and Russia and that our land is really “open”. The purpose of the installation is to awaken patriotism in people, to make them think, to look more closely around and see kangaroo in his nation.
