In the smaller exhibition space “Mākslas ala” in Liepāja, the art work “Impulses of Hope” by Svetlana Saveljeva can be seen. The artist’s sculptural works reflect her subjective philosophical observations about the characteristic, typical or spontaneous behavior and actions of people when faced with the social problems or beliefs of this era. When creating her works, it is important for her to feel that she is inseparable from it. No matter what the artist has talked about in the images, at that moment what is depicted in the sculptures is herself. The created sculptures depict real-world people with their characteristic virtues and vices, behavioral habits, emotions and aspirations. On the other hand, the choice of the content of the artwork is closely related to what is happening in society. Every person’s thoughts are in a constant dialogue between existential questions and temporal tasks. We often revise and change them in search of answers and new interpretations of the long-known nature of humanity.
