The illustrator and comic book author, VoRo.
The exhibition “25 years of drawing Rimouski” by the artist VoRo is on display until November 10 at the Léonard-Parent art gallery. The work of the illustrator and comic book author is highlighted.
With this exhibition, VoRo (Vincent Rioux) offers a retrospective of his work over the last 25 years through his illustrations of the city of Rimouski. He also presents a preview of his latest comic strip “L’Agent Double”, published in 2023. This story, which takes place in Rimouski, was drawn with his friend François Lapierre.
“This year, I wanted to do something for the launch of my latest book and I wanted to improve the exhibition. So I thought about all those illustrations I’ve done for events and book covers. These are often ephemeral illustrations that most people don’t get a chance to see if they aren’t at the event. I took the opportunity to bring it all together,” he says.
VoRo has been drawing professionally for 26 years. The region has always been at the heart of the projects of the artist from Bic.
“Throughout these years, I have often had the opportunity to draw my corner of the country that I love. I try to put it in all my comics and all my contracts. People who visit the exhibition will find almost all the beautiful landscapes of the city. I drew it from every angle, seen from above, seen from the sea and even seen from the end of the quay. People who love Rimouski and Bic will have something to marvel at,” he says.
When he draws Rimouski, VoRo is inspired by the city’s landscapes, but also by the people who live there.
“This is the quality of life that we find here. People take the time to talk to each other and live. In big cities, there isn’t that. I think we’ve realized during COVID that we’re one of the nicest places in the world. We have this chance and by traveling, we realize that we are blessed to be able to live here,” he expresses.
Teachers who would like to visit the “25 years of drawing Rimouski” exhibition and meet the illustrator with their students can contact the Léonard-Parent gallery at 418 724-3139 or at the address [email protected].
“We are always alone. It’s a monk’s job to be an illustrator. It takes activities that force you to go out and give you the opportunity to meet the public. I’ll be able to walk around the expo and talk to people who have questions. It’s a great time to meet my readers and my audience,” says VoRo.
The artist will be present at the Rimouski Book Fair the first weekend in November. He will offer a meeting open to all on Sunday, November 5, at 10:30 a.m., at the Léonard-Parent gallery, to talk about his career and his work as an illustrator.
