The departmental archives of the Gironde present from 12 December 2022 to 2 April 2023the exhibition Science in search of crime. Alphonse Bertillon, pioneering police expert designed by Peter Squarewhich provides scientific curatorship.
Establishing with certainty “who is who”, methodically photographing crime scenes, collecting and analyzing the traces left by criminals… Alphonse Bertillon occupies an essential place in the history of knowledge of crime in the period between the end of the 19thAnd and the beginning of the twentiethAnd century. Recognized as one of the founders of forensic science, his innovative work covers a considerable number of topics: from forensic photography to fingerprinting, from archive management to trace analysis, from signaling to graphology.
Always your journey through the exhibitiontwo hundred unpublished objects and documents will be offered to your eyes to present the “bertillonnage” and its many problems always in resonance with current events.
Around this exhibition, it will be proposed detective games , conferences, workshops, cinema screenings. Echoing the theme of the exhibition and in collaboration with the Tailcoat Nouvelle-Aquitaine MECAof them contemporary works are presented in the Gironde Archives room.
